Liberator / by Bryan Davis. Grades 7-10, rating: 4. Paperback.

In Liberator, the final book in Bryan Davis’ “Dragons of Starlight” series, Koren, Jason, and Elyssa continue on their journey to free the slaves and find a cure for the deadly disease that is taking the lives of many humans. Even Koren herself is battling the disease, growing weaker and weaker by the moment. Meanwhile Jason’s father, Edison Mastors, is helping lead a small army into the southlands of Starlight to do battle against the new dragon king Taushin in hopes of freeing the slaves. Cassabrie, the starlighter, has her own plan, one that she is being very secretive about. With help from Cassabrie and the dragons that are loyal to the human cause, will the young warrior, the starlighter, the Diviner, and the small army from Major Four be able to free the slaves and bring peace between the two worlds?

Davis has written a fast-paced, action-packed novel with a pinch of romance that is sure to capture the interest of teens who love fantasy. Mythological characters such as dragons, Diviners, and starlighters fill the pages and pull the reader into the world of Starlight. Plot driven, this book reveals each character more through their actions than their inner thoughts. There is a clear theme of good versus evil as those who serve the Creator fight to free those enslaved by the evil dragon forces. It is important to note that this series should be read in order. Readers of this book that have not read the first three books in this series will find themselves well into the heart of the book before they begin to understand who the Benefile are, what Exodus is, and where the human army has come from; even at the end readers will fail to have a full understanding of all the events that have occurred. Overall, this was a gripping conclusion to the series that is sure to meet with fans’ approval.
