Supporting CLJ and the Core Collection 4.2.2013

For some time we have not charged a subscription fee for CLJ. There are costs involved in what we do, so we have become an Amazon Associate, and you can support CLJ at no cost to yourself by clicking on any Amazon link in our core collection. Anything you buy on Amazon at that time gives us a percentage of your purchases.

If you go to our core collection, you will see Amazon images of each title, with a link to Amazon below the entry.

Thanks!

CLJ Core Collection

For the past year we have worked on building a core collection for the Christian reader. We continue to add new titles regularly.

For the first time we have pulled the collection together in one place, where it will be updated as new titles are added.

If you go to our home page, click on Core Collection, you’ll find a link leading you to the whole collection to date.

We appreciate your comments.

Online Library Catalog @ $100 Per Year?

If you could have an online library catalog which includes full services: patron catalog, reports, circulation, Z39.50 to find and share records from other libraries, etc. …

If that library catalog were a union catalog, including all entries in the Christian Library Journal library catalog, with thousands of good books already cataloged and ready for you to find for your books and use the shared record…

Would you be interested?

We use OPALS, an online library catalog, and you can take a look at it on our website: CLJ Library Catalog. Recently I asked our catalog provider for the best price he could give small Christian school and church libraries if they shared a union catalog. He said $100 a year for each library. Each library would have their own catalog, own homepage, etc., but could share records with each other, as well as with larger libraries using Z39.50.

If you are seriously interested, and ready to commit to such a catalog, please email us with your school/church name, contact person, mailing address, and phone number.

I think we can do this with only a few libraries to start.

Pray about it! This is a real gift from the Christian people at OPALS.

Change in Direction for Christian Library Journal

Beginning now, in 2013, CLJ book reviews and additional titles added to the core collection will be posted on our blog. If you are a member of the blog, you will receive reviews regularly.

We will also post a monthly newsletter, including that month’s reviews and additional titles to the core collection. Sign up for the newsletter now..

Next CLJ Issue

With health issues adding up (basic old age, I think), CLJ will be published irregularly. The next issue will be at least a month away, so enjoy fall and the opening of school..
